A year after immigrating from Mexico, Olivia began working at a San José McDonald’s location. Six years later, she was promoted to manager. During her 18 years working for McDonad’s, she’s witnessed how her co-workers – especially other Latinos and immigrants like herself — are often overworked, underpaid, and ignored by their employers.
This led Olivia last year to organize with Fight For $15, a national movement of working people fighting for fair wages and the right to form a union without retaliation.
Throughout the pandemic, Olivia has joined other San José fast-food workers in striking, attending actions, and organizing to win personal protective equipment, paid sick days, and other basics during the pandemic.
