In 2017, Kevin began working with the Santa Clara County Office of Cultural Competency as a Community Outreach Specialist. In this role, Kevin worked with a coalition of school district services, County services, and community based services in order to provide low-income communities with housing, healthcare, and financial assistance.
When the pandemic began, Kevin transitioned to service disaster work and provided support with the County’s hotel placement program, helping to house over 60 individuals facing homelessness. Now, he is working on the Isolation Quarantine Unit, which provides financial assistance and rent relief to those in need.
As a member of SEIU 521, Kevin also serves as the Vice Chair for the Committee on Political Education. As a DACA recipient and member of the undocumented community, Kevin strives to represent historically marginalized communities and ensure political decisions center those voices.
During the pandemic, Kevin has witnessed how some leaders have missed the mark on protecting our workers. As part of the Council, Kevin works to ensure we are better prepared for future disasters while also striving to ensure all working people have safe working conditions, adequate compensation, and are truly treated as essential.
Kevin came to the US from Mexico when he was seven, and lives in San José with his mom. He is currently a student at San José State University working towards his Masters in Social Work.
